The cylinder head is the core component of the engine valve train, which is subjected to high temperature and high pressure for a long time. It is prone to various malfunctions during daily use, directly affecting the engine's power, sealing, and operational stability. Mastering the causes and maintenance methods of common faults can quickly identify problems and reduce the degree of engine damage.
1、 Cylinder head deformation and warping
Frequent high temperature and water shortage, as well as uneven torque during bolt disassembly and assembly, can cause deformation of the cylinder head surface. The fault manifests as repeated damage to the cylinder gasket, oil and coolant exchange, and idle shaking. When repairing, first use a ruler to check the flatness, and for slight deformations, use flat milling and grinding to correct them; If the deformation is severe and cannot be repaired, replace the cylinder head directly. Tighten the assembly bolts in diagonal order, strictly following the original factory torque standard.
2、 Cylinder head crack damage
The main causes of cracking are alternating cold and hot impacts and violent repairs, with cracks often occurring around water channels and valve seats. The fault symptoms include frequent water shortage in the water tank, oil emulsification, and abnormal engine noise during operation. Minor cracks can be repaired using welding or adhesive techniques, while the reliability of repairing through cracks is low. It is recommended to replace the parts directly. After repair, a water pressure test must be conducted to ensure no leakage issues.
3、 Valve seal failure
The valve and valve seat are not tightly fitted, which can cause engine air leakage, power reduction, and difficulty starting. After disassembling the cylinder head, clean the valve carbon deposits, grind the valve sealing surface, and restore the fitting accuracy. Adjust the valve clearance in a timely manner when it is abnormal, and replace valves and valve oil seals with severe wear and aging to avoid oil burning.
4、 Blockage of oil and water channels
Long term use of inferior engine oil and antifreeze can easily block oil and water passages due to the accumulation of impurities, resulting in poor heat dissipation and lubrication, and exacerbating cylinder head aging and damage. Thoroughly unclog the blocked pipeline during maintenance and clean the scale and sludge inside the cylinder head. Regularly replace the oil and coolant to ensure smooth pipelines.
Cylinder head failures are often caused by maintenance omissions and high temperature conditions. If any abnormalities occur, timely maintenance and assembly processes should be standardized to effectively extend the service life of the cylinder head and ensure smooth engine operation.
