Southwest Research Institute has successfully converted a traditional natural gas engine to run solely on hydrogen fuel with minimal modifications, achieving near-zero tailpipe emissions while maintaining competitiveness with current diesel engines. Advanced turbocharging has significantly improved performance, making hydrogen ICE competitive with long-haul diesel engines on fuel economy.
H2: Hybrid Powertrains – The Pragmatic Bridge
Hybrid powertrains are emerging as the growth engine of the industry. Strong hybridization can reduce CO₂ emissions by up to 43% in passenger cars and 29–41% in light-duty trucks while maintaining vehicle affordability. The hybrid segment is projected to be the fastest-growing category in the Asia Pacific region, expanding at a CAGR of approximately 7.5% through 2035.
