The cylinder head is subjected to long-term high temperature and high pressure, alternating cold and hot impacts, as well as uneven disassembly and assembly torque and cylinder gasket failure, which can easily lead to flat deformation, warping and bending. The deformation of the cylinder head can cause problems such as water leakage, idle shaking, and repeated flushing of the cylinder gasket. It is necessary to first detect the amount of deformation, and then choose a reasonable repair method according to the degree of damage to ensure sealing and stability of use.
1、 Deformation detection and standard judgment
Before repair, the cylinder head surface must be thoroughly cleaned to remove carbon deposits, scale, and residual sealant. Use a ruler and a feeler gauge to measure the flatness of the cylinder head at multiple points, with a focus on checking the corners, air passages, and water passages around them. The flatness error of most gasoline and diesel engine cylinder heads is allowed to be within 0.05 millimeters, and exceeding the standard is considered deformation. Slight warping can be repaired by machining, while severe distortion and cracks accompanied by deformation are not recommended for repair. The assembly should be replaced directly.
2、 Minor deformation grinding repair
For cylinder heads with slight curvature and excessive errors, priority should be given to using flat grinding or milling. By using professional machine tools for micro cutting of the cylinder head joint surface, the flatness is corrected, and the cutting amount needs to be strictly controlled. The single removal amount should not be too large to avoid changes in compression ratio and valve interference. After processing, retest the flatness again to ensure compliance with the original factory standards. At the same time, clean the position of the air duct and valve seat ring to prevent residual impurities from processing. This method has low cost and wide applicability, and is the most commonly used repair method in maintenance.
3、 Moderate deformation correction processing
For moderate bending deformation of cast iron cylinder heads, thermal correction repair can be used. Heat the cylinder head evenly to the appropriate temperature, use specialized fixtures to slowly apply pressure for correction, naturally cool and shape, and eliminate internal stress. The aluminum alloy cylinder head material is relatively brittle, and high-temperature correction is prohibited to avoid cracking and scrapping. It can only be corrected through precision grinding. After calibration, a water pressure test is required to identify hidden cracks and prevent leakage after repair.
4、 Key points of repair assembly and prevention
After the cylinder head is repaired, it must be replaced with a brand new original cylinder gasket and old parts must not be reused. The installation of cylinder head bolts follows the principle of tightening from the middle to both sides and diagonally in stages, strictly following the standard torque and angle specifications. Avoid long-term high temperature and heavy load operation of the engine during daily use. During maintenance, standardize disassembly and assembly to reduce cylinder head deformation and recurrence from the source, and extend the service life of the valve mechanism.
