The Mercedes-Benz M264 series engine is a mainstream 2.0T four-cylinder model from Mercedes-Benz, featuring an aluminum alloy cylinder block and a nano-coated cylinder wall. Its structure is precise and requires high maintenance standards. As a fundamental component of the engine, the quality of the cylinder block's maintenance directly impacts the overall reliability of the engine. Strict adherence to specifications during disassembly, inspection, and repair is essential to avoid secondary damage.

1. Precautions for disassembly and cleaning

When repairing the M264 cylinder block, it is essential to disassemble it when the engine is completely cold to prevent deformation of the cylinder block and thread slippage caused by disassembly and assembly under high temperature conditions. Before disassembly, make sure to mark the component positions, especially the oil and water circuit connectors and sensor positions. When cleaning the cylinder block, it is strictly prohibited to use hard objects such as steel wire brushes and sandpaper to polish the cylinder wall, as this may damage the original nano-coating. The water and oil circuits need to be flushed with special cleaning agents and then dried with compressed air to ensure the absence of impurities, oil stains, and scale residue, thereby avoiding oil circuit blockage or poor lubrication after assembly.

2. Requirements for cylinder block inspection and repair

The focus is on inspecting the flatness of the upper plane of the cylinder block. M264 has extremely high requirements for flatness, and exceeding the standard value can easily lead to cylinder head gasket damage, water leakage, and air leakage. The cylinder wall needs to be inspected for wear, scratches, and strain. Minor scratches can be repaired through professional honing, while severe damage requires replacement of the cylinder block and is prohibited from being used forcibly. At the same time, check the coaxiality of the main bearing seat hole and the threaded hole for any damage. The threaded hole with stripped threads needs to be repaired according to the original factory standard, and the hole diameter cannot be enlarged arbitrarily. Key parts such as the crankshaft thrust surface and cylinder block locating pin need to be carefully inspected to ensure no wear or deformation.

3. Key points of assembly and torque control

During assembly, all sealing gaskets and sealing rings must be replaced with new ones, and the reuse of old parts is prohibited. Cylinder head bolts and main bearing bolts are disposable components and must be replaced with new ones. They must be tightened multiple times in strict accordance with the sequence, torque, and angle specified in the maintenance manual, and it is strictly forbidden to operate based on experience. When installing pistons and crankshafts, ensure proper lubrication and protection to avoid dry friction and damage to the cylinder wall and bearing shells. The mating surfaces between the cylinder block and the transmission, as well as the accessory brackets, must be kept flat and clean. The sealing glue should be of the original factory-specified model, applied evenly without excess, to prevent the glue strip from entering the oil passage and causing blockage.

4. Post-maintenance Inspection and Precautions

After the cylinder block assembly is completed, pressure tests must be conducted on the water and oil passages to check for any leaks. Once confirmed to be leak-free and operating smoothly, the complete engine assembly can be completed. After starting the engine, it is necessary to idle it for break-in, observing whether the oil pressure and water temperature are normal, and whether there are any abnormal noises or leaks. For daily use, it is recommended to use engine oil certified by Mercedes-Benz, and regular maintenance should be carried out to avoid long-term high-temperature and high-load operation, in order to extend the service life of the cylinder block and ensure stable operation of the M264 engine.
