Spark plug oil leakage is a common engine malfunction, which not only causes poor ignition, idle shaking, and decreased power, but long-term leakage can also contaminate spark plug electrodes, exacerbate carbon deposition, and even damage ignition coils. The core causes are often seal failure or component aging. Only by accurately locating the source of leakage and treating it accordingly can the problem be thoroughly solved and repeated failures be avoided.

1、 The core reason for spark plug oil leakage

Spark plug oil leakage is mainly divided into two types: external oil leakage and internal oil leakage, corresponding to different fault locations, which are easy to quickly distinguish:

1. Aging of valve cover gasket (most common): The valve cover gasket is responsible for sealing the top of the cylinder head. Long term exposure to high temperature and oil corrosion can cause hardening and cracking. Oil seeps out from the gaps and flows into the spark plug sleeve, leading to oil leakage at the top and threads of the spark plug.

2. Damaged spark plug sealing ring: The special sealing ring (oil seal) between the spark plug and the cylinder head wears and deforms after long-term use, and the sealing performance decreases. Oil seeps into the gap, often manifested as oil leakage at the root of the spark plug.

3. Cylinder head cracks or thread damage: Wear and tear of cylinder head threads, thread slippage, or slight cracks in the cylinder head can cause oil leakage into the spark plug mounting hole. Such situations are rare, but the harm is greater.

4. Poor sealing of ignition coil: The sealing component at the connection between the ignition coil and the spark plug is aging, causing oil to seep into the gap. At the same time, it may be accompanied by ignition coil failure, resulting in difficulty starting.

2、 Targeted solutions (clear steps, easy to operate)

1. Replace valve cover gasket: If the valve cover gasket is aging, remove the valve cover, clean the oil stains and carbon deposits on the sealing surface, replace it with a brand new original valve cover gasket, apply special sealant, tighten the bolts with standard torque, and completely solve the top oil leakage.

2. Replace the spark plug sealing ring: Oil leakage is concentrated at the root of the spark plug. Simply replace the spark plug sealing ring with the corresponding specification, apply a small amount of engine oil before installation to ensure a tight seal, without disassembling the cylinder head, and the operation is simple.

3. Repair or replace cylinder head: If the cylinder head thread is damaged, a tap repair can be performed; If there are cracks, minor cracks can be repaired, and in severe cases, the cylinder head needs to be replaced to avoid worsening leakage.

4. Check the ignition coil: Disassemble the ignition coil, check the sealing components, replace them synchronously if they are aging, clean the oil stains on the surface of the coil, ensure that it is installed properly, and avoid secondary oil leakage.

3、 Subsequent prevention and precautions

1. When replacing accessories, choose original parts to avoid poor material and aging of secondary parts, and shorten their service life.

2. Regularly check the condition of the valve cover gasket and spark plug sealing ring, with a focus on inspection when driving over 60000 kilometers.

3. Use high-quality engine oil that meets the standards to avoid oil deterioration, corrosion of seals, and exacerbation of oil leakage.

4. When replacing spark plugs, tighten them according to standard torque to avoid being too loose or too tight, which may damage the threads or sealing rings.

After the processing is completed, start the engine and let it idle for 10-15 minutes. If there is no leakage, it indicates that the repair is in place and can effectively restore the engine ignition performance, avoiding problems such as decreased power and increased fuel consumption.
