Several Major Signals Indicating The Need for Engine Overhaul Or Replacement

The engine is the core powertrain of a vehicle, and minor faults can be repaired through maintenance and repair. However, when severe mechanical damage occurs, minor repairs and repairs cannot cure the problem. Mastering the core signals that indicate the need for major repairs or replacements of the engine can help timely assess the condition of the vehicle, avoid complete scrapping caused by continued driving, and reduce high losses.

1、 Severe and incurable oil burning

Slight oil consumption is considered normal operating conditions, but if there is oil consumption exceeding one liter per thousand kilometers, blue smoke during cold start, and a large amount of smoke during rapid acceleration, and the replacement of valve oil seals, exhaust valves, and piston rings is still ineffective after cleaning, it indicates that the cylinder wall is worn and the piston rings are completely ineffective. Belonging to severe internal mechanical damage, it must be disassembled for major repairs or the assembly must be replaced directly.

2、 Continuous metallic abnormal noise and increasing with rotational speed

The engine produces knocking, crankshaft and connecting rod metal impact sounds, which are different from the ordinary valve clicking sound. The abnormal noise continues to increase with the increase of engine speed and does not disappear when the car is hot, indicating that the internal bearings, crankshaft, and connecting rod wear exceed the standard. Continuing to drive can easily lead to axle jamming and cylinder explosion, which are high-risk signals that require emergency repairs.

3、 Severe insufficient cylinder pressure and complete power degradation

After routine maintenance, carbon cleaning, and ignition system replacement, there are still issues such as weak acceleration, severe shaking, and backfire stalling. Through cylinder pressure testing, multiple cylinders with low pressure and excessive pressure difference indicate that the piston and valve seals have failed, and the cylinder body is severely worn. This type of malfunction cannot be fine tuned or repaired, and can only be restored to sealing through major repairs.

4、 Repeated high temperatures cause deformation of the body

Engines with multiple high temperatures and cylinder gasket flushing can easily cause cylinder head deformation and cylinder block plane warping. Repeated occurrences of oil-water mixing, antifreeze entering the cylinder, and oil emulsification, as well as repeated repairs to the gasket, still result in recurrence. The deformation of the body belongs to structural damage, which is difficult to repair and has a high repair rate. It is recommended to undergo major repairs or replace the assembly.

5、 Shell damage and major mechanical accidents

The cracking of the engine cylinder block, crankshaft fracture, timing jump tooth top bending valve, and internal component fracture and damage to the cylinder block are irreversible hard injuries. Ordinary maintenance cannot restore the accuracy and strength of the entire machine, and the cost-effectiveness of maintenance is extremely low. Therefore, priority should be given to directly replacing the assembly.
