The core of an engine is to convert the chemical energy of fuel into mechanical energy to drive the vehicle. Its working process can be simplified into four continuous steps: "intake, compression, work, and exhaust", which are repeated in a loop to achieve continuous power output. The following uses plain language combined with the first level title to clearly explain the core principle for quick understanding.

1、 Core working cycle (four stroke simplified version)

The engine mainly completes energy conversion through four strokes, with four step cycles:

Intake stroke: The intake valve opens, the piston descends, and air (mixed fuel) is drawn into the cylinder to prepare for combustion;

Compression stroke: The intake valve closes, the piston moves upward, compresses the mixed gas in the cylinder, and increases pressure and temperature;

Power stroke: Spark plug ignition (gasoline engine), mixed gas combustion produces explosive force, pushes the piston down, drives the crankshaft to rotate, and outputs power;

Exhaust stroke: The exhaust valve opens, the piston rises, and the exhaust gas after combustion is discharged, completing one cycle.

2、 The role of key components (in layman's terms)

Piston: equivalent to a "power converter", it converts the thrust generated by combustion into rotational power through up and down movement, driving the wheels to rotate;

Spark plug: responsible for igniting the mixed gas, triggering combustion, and is the core ignition component of gasoline engines;

Crankshaft: converts the linear motion of the piston into rotational motion and transmits power;

Valve: controls intake and exhaust to ensure orderly combustion process.

3、 Summary of Core Principles

The essence of an engine is "fuel combustion generates power", which converts the chemical energy of fuel into mechanical energy through a four stroke cycle. The core relies on the orderly coordination of "intake, compression, work, and exhaust". Proper maintenance during daily use can ensure stable operation and avoid malfunctions.
