The F8CV is a small-displacement inline-three-cylinder gasoline engine, most widely recognized for powering the first-generation Daewoo Matiz and its global derivatives. Produced from 1991 to 2018, this engine is a key example of the small, economical powertrains that defined the global entry-level car market for nearly three decades.

The engine's design heritage can be traced to the Suzuki F8B, and it was also marketed under the code A08S3 in certain Chevrolet models. Its core specifications are as follows:

The F8CV employs a naturally aspirated, overhead camshaft (SOHC) design with two valves per cylinder. It utilizes a cast-iron cylinder block and an aluminum cylinder head, a combination chosen for durability and cost-effectiveness. The engine's peak power of 38 kW is achieved at 5900 rpm, while its maximum torque of 68 Nm is delivered at a relatively low 4600 rpm, providing adequate responsiveness for city driving.

This powerplant was primarily installed in a front-engine, front-wheel-drive layout and was exclusively offered with a 5-speed manual transmission. Its primary applications include the Daewoo Matiz (M100, M150, M200), the Daewoo Tico, and the Chevrolet Spark (M150, M200). The F8CV is also known for its fuel efficiency, with combined cycle consumption figures around 6.1 L/100 km. With proper maintenance, the engine's lifespan is estimated at approximately 220,000 km.

In summary, the F8CV is a simple, robust, and economical engine that served as the workhorse for numerous entry-level cars. While unremarkable in terms of outright performance, its reliability, low running costs, and long production run cemented its place as a significant power unit in the history of affordable global motoring.
