Cylinder block leakage and air leakage are common engine faults, often caused by seal failure, cylinder block damage, and improper assembly. Water leakage can cause high engine temperature and oil emulsification, while air leakage can lead to problems such as decreased power, idle shaking, and increased fuel consumption. Timely investigation of leaks and targeted treatment can prevent serious damage to the engine such as cylinder pulling and deformation.
1、 Cylinder block leakage fault and treatment
The common causes of cylinder block leakage are cylinder gasket erosion, cylinder block plane deformation, and subtle cracks in the cylinder block. The fault manifests as insufficient cylinder pressure, unstable idle, weak acceleration, and abnormal exhaust pipe noise. When dealing with it, first remove the cylinder head and check the cylinder gasket. If there is burning through, aging, or deformation, replace it directly with a brand new original cylinder gasket. Regarding the warping and deformation of the cylinder body plane, the flatness is detected by a ruler. Minor deformations can be repaired by precision grinding, while severe deformations require replacement of the cylinder body. If there are cracks or leaks in the cylinder body, minor cracks can be repaired by welding or pressure repair processes. For penetrating cracks, it is recommended to replace the cylinder body directly, and after repair, the cylinder pressure must be checked.
2、 Cylinder block leakage fault and treatment
The leakage of the cylinder block is mainly caused by cracks in the water channel, corrosion and leakage of the plug, and failure of the cylinder gasket seal. Typical symptoms include rapid loss of coolant, bubbling in the water tank, and white emulsification of engine oil. Firstly, check the water blockage and water channel interface of the cylinder block. If there is rust or looseness, replace the plug directly and reseal it. Minor external water seepage can be cleaned on the contact surface and reinforced with specialized heat-resistant sealant. If there is a crack in the internal water channel of the cylinder block, minor damage can be sealed with professional repair technology. If the damage is severe, the cylinder block needs to be replaced. After maintenance, a water pressure test must be conducted to confirm that there is no hidden leakage.
3、 Key points of assembly and prevention
When repairing and assembling, the cylinder head bolts need to be tightened diagonally and in a sequence from inside to outside, strictly following the original factory torque standard to prevent further leakage due to uneven stress. In daily use, avoid long-term high temperature and violent operation of the engine when the car is cold. Regularly replace qualified antifreeze to reduce cylinder rust and thermal deformation. At the same time, maintain the lubrication system on time, delay the aging of the cylinder body, and reduce the probability of water and gas leakage faults from the root.
